Applying For A Marriage License

I'm helping my sister arrange her wedding. None of the local licensed ceremony venues are appropriate (or affordable). I want to investigate the possibility of hiring an appropriate venue and requesting a marriage license for it - but I can't seem to find out how you do that. Have you any ideas or do you know anyone who has done that?
Thanks

Answer:

Civil marriage licenses for venues are issued through the local council, so you should be able to find the information you need on your local council website.

The form the venue would need is called "Certification and Registration of Religious Buildings for Worship and Marriage" and the local superintendent registrar will be able to supply it to you or the venue.

There is a cost for this license and it can range from £100 - £1500 for a civil license, depending on the cost set by your local register office. The superintendant registrar will be able to confirm this for them.

Do bear in mind that if you're going to ask a venue to become licensed for marriages, it is a big ask. They may not conform to the strict guidelines set out for the use and structure of the building, they may also ask you to pay any fees incurred and it could take some time.

The best place to start for more information would be your local government website and go from there.

All the best

Nicola
