When planning your beach wedding, make sure you ask these essential questions to your tour operator or wedding planner before you sign any contracts.

These questions will help you have a clearer picture of what you’re getting for your beach wedding so you don’t get any nasty surprises later. They'll also help you manage your budget, so your costs don’t keep creeping up.

The travel details
- What is included in the cost? (Flights, transfers, wedding insurance, full board, all inclusive, activities, flowers, cake, photography, reception food, transport, decoration, etc)
- Is there a wedding planner at the resort included? What are their duties?
- What permits do I need to get married?
- Can I actually get married on the beach?
- Do I need to have a blood test?
- When do you need our documentation?

The beach wedding destination
- What is the weather like at that time of year?
- Is it likely to rain, be cloudy?
- Do I need any vaccinations?
- Do I need any visas?
- Can I have a picture of the beach?
- Is the ceremony on the beach?
- How is the beach maintained?
- Is the beach in a cove (it will be less windy)?
- Is it a private beach?
- Will there be other couples on the beach or will we have exclusivity on the day?
- Will there be anyone else be on the beach?

Date and time of ceremony
- Can I specify the day of the ceremony?
- Can I specify the time of day of the ceremony?
- What are the restrictions for the beach?
- Can I have candles, glitter, confetti, music, food or drinks on the beach?

The ceremony
- Who will take the ceremony?
- Will we need to meet them before the ceremony?
- Will there be a practice run?
- How close is the ceremony to the waves?

- How will the canopy be decorated?
- Will there be chairs for the guests?

- Can I see menus? Are the menus flexible?
- Are drinks included for the ceremony and/or reception?
- How many drinks per person are included?
- Is champagne included?
- Are there animals or birds, on or near the grounds?
- Is a wedding cake included? How big is it?
- Can I specify the type of cake?
- Can I bring my own cake from the UK? What are the rules for bringing cakes through customs?

Dress, flowers and photography
- Does the airline have any rules about taking my wedding dress onboard?
- Will someone at the hotel look after my wedding dress?
- Can flowers be arranged?
- Can I specify the flowers and type of bouquet?
- Can I specify the flowers for the ceremony/venue?
- Is photography included?
- Who is the photographer? / Can you recommend any photographers?
- Can I see examples of their work?
- Is a wedding album included? Can I see an example of what it looks like?
- How many photographs are included?
- How long will it take to receive my wedding photographs?
