All You Need To Know About Bridesmaids
The bridesmaids are there to help and assist you on the run up to the big day and on the big day.
Your chief bridesmaid will run the show, organise your hen do and usually sign the register as a witness. Any other attendants are there to help you on your big day, provide emotional support and keep you calm.
So how many maids can you have?
It’s really up to you as to how many attendants you want. You’ll definitely want at least one, because even the most independent of girls will need a little help.
I had two maids – my best friend and my sister. Both them helped in different ways, but they were there to guide and support me in the run up to the wedding.
Some brides have many more. Recently there was a bride with 24 maids as she didn’t know who to choose! Now, that must have been expensive!
Interestingly, most of the stress my bride-to-be friends had was from trying to find matching bridesmaids dresses. And of course, the more maids you have, the more stress it is!
The duties
Think carefully about who you choose. They do have a duty to help you, so choose friends who you’ll know will look after you on the day.
Some attendant's duties are to:
- help the bride select her dress
- help the bride dress on the day
- ensure the bride is calm on the day
- arrange the bride's dress and train
- hold the bride’s bouquet during the ceremony
- act as a witness and sign the register
- deal with any issues, suppliers and gifts
- do any last minute jobs on the day
- look after the bride's essentials (emergency kit and make-up)
