The Do’s and Don’ts of
Budget Weddings

Planning a budget weddingWith budget weddings some good tips early on will help you keep to your planned budget. These do’s and don’ts will provide you with guidance to keep you on the right track.

They’re not all a ‘must’ as it’s dependent on your situation and the type of wedding you’re having. Read on...

The Do's of Budget Weddings

• Do plan carefully and well in advance. Doing your homework and knowing what to expect is crucial to budget weddings.

• Do be confident by sounding knowledgeable when you speak to suppliers. That way, they'll be less tempted to run rings around you.

• Do hunt around and look at different suppliers, what they offer and what their prices are like.

• Do tell your suppliers that you’re looking around at other options as well. They’ll then know that they need to be competitive to get your business.

• Do get three, like-for-like quotes – you’ll be able to compare suppliers easily and select the best one.

• Do keep a file with all your ideas, quotes and receipts. Being organised will help you keep your budget on track.

• Do tell suppliers how much you have to spend. If they want your business then they’ll accommodate your budget. You may be surprised at what they’ll throw in for free as well!

• Do ask for help from friends and relatives. This is one the best ways you’ll save money.

The Don’ts of Budget Weddings

• Don’t be afraid to ask questions when you’re visiting a supplier. Very few people have organised a party the size you are so you’re not expected to know everything! It will also help you build a relationship with them, so if something goes wrong later on, it will be easier to put it right if you have a relationship with your supplier.

• Don’t be afraid to negotiate. Ask them if that’s their best price, or if they could do it for £XXX. Be confident and you’re likely to get what you want.

• Don’t be afraid to ask for more. See what else they can throw in for the price.

• Don’t accept what you’re told. If you don’t think something is quite right, then ask them again, keep questioning until you’re satisfied and get it in writing.

• Don’t forget to update your budget. Little things can easily slip in and send you into the red.

• Don’t mention ‘wedding’. Say you’re having a celebration or birthday party instead. Wedding services will be double the cost!
