Can I Stack A Fruit Cake On A Sponge Cake

by Bernie
(UK)

We are having a three tier cake, the bottom tier will be sponge and the other two will be fruit. I don't know whether the chrome stand would take having the two heavy fruit cakes higher up or would I be better having the biggest cake which is the bottom one as fruit? Any advice would be appreciated.

Answer:

A heavy fruit cake could cause the upper tiers of your cake to topple over as it would be top heavy.

It’s hard to say if the stand would hold them with a sponge cake on the bottom.

It would be best to be cautious and consider having the heavier fruit cake on the bottom and the lighter sponge cake/s on the top.

Good luck with the baking and I do hope this has helped.

Fruit cake to take the weight of sponges

Hi, all the advice I have seen has said that you MUST have the fruit cake at the bottom. I don't think I would risk it any other way! Good luck!
