The Best Cheap Wedding Cakes

Having done a fair amount of research on cheap wedding cakes, I’ve found several places that do good quality, well decorated cakes that don’t break the bank.

The decoration takes time and therefore the cost increases. Alternatively, you could get a friend or relative to make one for you or even buy it for you as a gift.

The two places I’ve found that stock cheap wedding cakes are both British favourites and offer excellent quality cakes at affordable prices.

Marks and Spencer comes out top for cheap wedding cakes
My first favourite is Marks and Spencer. They have a range of super wedding cakes and I personally think they offer the best value. There are three types of cakes – chocolate, sponge or fruit and nine different cake designs to choose from.

With M&S, you can either choose a pre-decorated or a plain cake then decorate it yourself. I personally really like a few simple flowers to decorate a cake.

Their prices start about £115 for a three tier cake (approx. 140 servings), although you can buy the tiers individually as well. You simply order online and collect at store. They also have lots of good information about stacking and storing the cake too.

High quality cakes from Waitrose
Waitrose offers a range of around 8 cake designs in various flavours. The cakes are excellent quality and most come ready decorated. If you want to decorate your own cake there do have a few options available as well.

Their prices start at about £160 for a three tier cake (approx. 90 – 110 servings). You don’t have the same option to mix and match like at Marks and Spencer, but the quality is excellent. You can also order online and collect from store.

I believe both stores offer the best value for money when it comes to buying wedding cakes. If these types of cakes aren’t up your street, then there are plenty more ideas for lowering your cake costs and tips on making your own wedding cake in this site.

The ultimate cheap wedding cakes
If you really want the cheapest of the cheapest when it comes to cakes, then Tesco and Asda are your best bet. You can pick up a 'celebration' cake, iced, but not decorated for less than £35 for three tiers.

Tesco do two flavours - madiera and fruit cake and Asda only do fruit. I've not tried these cakes, but they do offer a very cheap alternative. You can read more about these cheap cakes here.
