Ideas and Inspiration For Cheap Wedding Invites

With cheap wedding invites you often get stuck with flimsy looking invitations or a design that leaves you looking like everyone else. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are loads of ways that you can create unique wedding invitations that look great, don’t cost the earth and make your wedding stand out from the crowd.

Use poetry for a unique invite
A very special wedding invite is to create something that is personal. If you’re good with words, then unearth your creative side by writing a poem. Together you’ll be able to come with lots of ideas.

For starters, you could write about how you met, your future life together or what the wedding day’s going to be like. It’s doesn’t have to be slushy – if you’re more of a comedian, make it funny instead. You could then follow it up with thank you poem about your wedding day. You could then print these out on card blanks for really unique and personal cheap wedding invites.

Learn calligraphy
An alternative way to put pen to paper is to use calligraphy. A very traditional approach for a wedding invitation design, but if you can do this yourself, then you’re on to a winner.

You don't just have to write special words with a calligraphy pen, you could design a special emblem, motif or pattern that you could replicate on each card. Why not pick up some card blanks and create your own unique calligraphy message or design?

Cut your costs in half
Most invites are pieces of card folded to two pages, like a normal greeting card. Well, one way to cut your costs is to use half the card. Postcard size invites are a great way to save on the cost of paper and if you use vellum layered over the top, then you could create a really pretty design for half the cost.

You can see some really lovely design ideas for how to use this technique on Wedding-Invitation-Ideas.com. There are also loads of free printable wedding invitations too.

Take a photo of you and your fiancé
If you’ve got a good photo of the two of you, then why not send it out as your wedding invitation. Companies such as Kodak and Photobox.co.uk now create greeting cards using photos on the front of the card. These are a great way to create unique and cheap wedding invites. These cards also make great wedding thank you cards – simply use your favourite shot from the wedding day!

You could also try manipulating the photo on your computer. You could use a special package such as Paint.net (it's free) to create a special effect.

Use your own design skills
You can pick up wedding images on image libraries for very little (about £2) which you could use for the basis of your invitation. If you then copy this into a word processing programme, you can then add text over the top to create a very simple wedding invitation.

Then get this printed locally at your local copy shop and you’ll end up with low cost wedding invitations. Shop around for the best prices though.
