Cheap Wedding Music Ideas
Whatever style of wedding you choose; there are plenty of ideas for cheap wedding music. From pop to classical, there are lots of solutions to meet your budget.
When you fork out hundreds for a DJ at your wedding, more often than not you can be a little disappointed. The cost is high and the music generally a bit naff. But how can you take control and have cheap wedding music?
Use an MP3 player
The best way to save on your wedding music is to use a MP3 player with all your favourite tracks. For our wedding, we used our iPod and bought any additional music we wanted. It ended up being really cheap as we borrowed our friend’s equipment (cables, amp and speakers). It gave us complete control over the tracks we wanted to play, when we wanted them played and for how long. If you haven’t got a MP3 player, you could use a friend’s. Perhaps they’ll even compile the playlists for you.
For our wedding, we had a couple of hours of our favourite classical music (the ones that everyone knows). Most of the classical tracks were taken from free compilation albums distributed with newspapers. We then had a couple of hours of the crooners over dinner and then our favourite pop classics and dance tracks. It was great and I think everyone had a dance. It also made sure that we had no ‘Come On Eileen’ or other corkers! (Sorry if you like that stuff!).
Use local talent
Another option for cheap wedding music is to have a young local band play. It will give them the exposure they need in front of an audience and be a really cheap alternative for you. They’ll also have all the kit, so no need to hire anything!
Bear in mind though, that a band will take up a lot of space so watch out if you’re using a small venue. Also make sure you brief them on the type and style of music you want and give them a list of tracks. You don’t want them going AWOL.
Ask a friend to DJ
A friend of mine is an avid DJ as a hobby and he played at my other friend’s wedding. They all liked dance music, so it worked out really well. Once again, if they like to DJ, they have the equipment you need, so you’ll save a packet on hire costs.
Try local schools
You could even try a local orchestra, music school or music teacher. More often than not, you’ll find that they’re willing to play for you for a nominal cost. Start hunting around and you’ll be surprised at what you can find. Start at your local school or in the paper for people advertising music lessons.
