Cheap Wedding Venue In Kent

by Ashma
(Welling, SE London)

Does anyone know if there are any halls or venues that we can hire for an evening reception in Jan/Mar 2010 for about 80-100 people in Kent.

We live in the south east area of London and Welling, so anywhere there or in Maidstone area would be good.

We don't want a lavish wedding as neither of us has such money available, but we would like something simple and small.

All the websites I have been to are quoting expensive prices... which are unrealistic, making a mockery of marriage and ripping people off.

I would appreciate any suggestions please.

Many thanks,

Ashma

Answer:

Finding a cheap wedding venue isn’t easy, but it can be done. It takes time and patience as most of the cheaper venues don’t advertise. Keep persevering!

I did a little search and came up with some ideas. I don’t the area, so it’s difficult for me to know whether the suggestions below are any good or not, but if you look along those lines, I’m sure you’ll find something.

First of all, I’m a big fan of village halls as they’re cheap and if you look hard enough, you can find some lovely little gems. Between Welling and Maidstone there should be plenty! I came up with Leybourne Village Hall in Leybourne, a small village not too far from Maidstone. It looks okay and they hire it out to non-parishioners / residents too. If you do a search on Google Maps, you should find plenty that crop up. Also do the same for ‘church halls’, again, you’ll find plenty.

I would also look at pubs and bars. I know you said that you were looking more towards the outskirts of London, but I have had good reports of the Trafalgar Tavern in Greenwich. It’s the right side of London and not too far from Welling. Their function room is quite fancy with views over the river, but as it’s a pub, the cost should be lower than the usual wedding reception venues. If that’s not quite right, try searching for other pubs and bars in your chosen area, you’ll be surprised with what comes up.

Community centres are also a good bet. If you search hard enough, you’ll find some that look stunning, others will just be a good, affordable space. You can easily find out what’s around to hire by looking on the local government websites, which for you would be Kent.gov.uk. A good space I found was Hurst Community Centre in Bexley.

Hopefully that will give you some inspiration and I hope you find your wedding venue!

If anyone can help, please add your comments below.

All the best

Nicola
