A Do It Yourself Wedding Will Save You Money
By guest author Amber Dusick
A do it yourself wedding is a sure fire way to personalise your wedding and even save money in the process. You don't even have to be crafty, just willing to put some time and effort into a project. Enlist friends and family to help too. Here are five things you should consider doing yourself to save some cash and to make your wedding unique.
Buy Simple - Think basic, think simple. Buy a plain dress for cheaper and embellish it yourself by sewing on pearls, crystals and beads as trim. Purchase plain white shoes and add a shoe clip or glass beads. Items that are heavily decorated already are more expensive, just buy a basic and decorate it yourself! Veil - If you can hold a needle and a thread you can certainly sew your own veil to a comb. A veil is nothing more than a piece of tulle attached to a comb or headband. The tulle itself will cost you next to nothing while buying a pre-made veil can be incredibly expensive!Flowers - Yes, you can do your own flowers if you are open to more earthy, natural looking arrangements and bouquets. This is one thing that can save you a huge amount of money for your do it yourself wedding, but its often the most daunting project to a bride. Choose in season flowers that last a long time when cut so that you can create bouquets a couple days in advance. Do tests with the flowers you plan to use. Ask friends to help. Buy vases at thrift and charity shops or rent them. Centrepieces - This goes with flowers, but to save even more money, think outside flowers. Consider using large tree branches, rocks, candles or other items that represent you as a couple for centrepieces instead of flowers. This can save you a bundle for your do it yourself wedding. Favours & Invitations - Rather than having a print shop take care of your invitations, print them on your home printer. This is a very popular option with thrifty brides so there are many attractive kits on the market for this. Favours are an obvious thing you can make yourself. Why buy a pre-packaged mass-produced item when you can give each guest a little something that is a personal way to say thanks? They'll cherish it if it is handmade. There is even more you can do if you really want to plan a DIY wedding, consider the food, decorations, thank-you cards, guest book and more! Have fun planning your DIY wedding as it will be 100% unique and special. Guests appreciate the time and effort you'll spend on personal touches and things you create yourself will be more meaningful to you in your memories.
