How Much Wedding Food Do I Need To Order?

I am having a small wedding with only 40 guests and I've decided to order the food for the reception from M&S Food to Order. It is a cold, 'afternoon tea style' buffet and most of the items say things like 'serves 4-6 people' but does that mean that I have to buy 8 of everything e.g. 8 sandwich trays etc? Thanks.

With the portions, I would go with what M&S have said, but if you're unsure, don't be afraid to call them up and ask them. They are the experts in their range of food and usually the staff at M&S are very helpful. It's worth asking them if the serving guides are indications for the item served with something else, or if it was served alone. For example, a tray of sandwiches which serves 6 people, is that enough for a meal, or as part of a meal? You'll then be able to judge how much to order.

Remember though, that not everyone will have everything. Consider choosing a wide variety of different foods so that your guests can pick a little of everything. Bread, potatoes and pasta are great ways to fill people up, so make sure you serve plenty of them – they're generally cheap too!
