Leaving A Decorated Wedding Cake Overnight

by Sarah
(Leeds)

Glad I have found this site! I am making my own three tiered sponge cake which I plan to dowel and stack the night before my wedding (Friday).

I am using a sugar paste icing. Will the cake be okay left exposed overnight and the following day until the evening until it is eaten?

I am worried that the cake will dry out. Or should I cover it in some way? If so, how would this be possible?
Thanks
Sarah

Answer:

Hi Sarah

I’m glad you are enjoying the site.

You don’t need to worry about your cake drying out because a sponge cake has a shelf life of seven days and the icing will protect it.

It would be ideal to cover your iced cake just to protect it from dust or damage.

There are cake boxes available for stacked cakes that you could store your cake in. these are quite sturdy and so should work fine.

Even if the cake is a little too tall for the box, you can still put it in a box and then tent the top with foil, just be sure not to let the foil touch the cake.

Good luck

Nicola
