Make Your Own
Wedding Favours

One way to really save some cash is to make your own wedding favours. You don't have to be particularly creative as there's lots of ideas for all levels of skill.

From chocolate truffles to twisted wire photo frames, there's a DIY wedding favour option for everyone.

First off, sweets and chocolates - yum!

Probably the easiest type of wedding favour that you can make yourself is a chocolate truffle. Easy and very cost effective (as well as quick), you can rustle up enough pieces of chocolate heaven for all your guests in less then a couple of hours.

Here are some easy recipes to get you started:

Chocolate truffles as wedding favours Chocolate and Ginger Truffles and Chocolate Truffles. Both these recipes are from the BBC Food website and are literally melt in the mouth!

On a more traditional note, you could make your own sweets. TheFoody.com has some great traditional sweet recipes including fudge, treacle, peppermint creams and boiled sweets.

If you're making your own sweets or chocs, you'll need to think about how you're going to present them. This article on wedding favour boxes will give you some great money-saving ideas.

Candles make great gifts too
Candles really are very versatile and make great wedding favour gifts too. Not only are they practical for your guests but they can make a welcome decoration to your table. Some ideas for candles as 'make your own wedding favours' include:

- Tealights. Packs of 100 plus, can easily picked up from your local Ikea store or superstore. You can then decorate each one with ribbon matching your wedding colours. The ribbon can be spot glued with Glue Dots for a clean finish or tied in a bow (a bit more tricky).

- Make your own candles to match the colour of your wedding. There are loads of candle recipes on TheFarm.org and the instructions are easy to follow.

- You could buy sheets of beeswax (if you know a beekeeper, you could pick these up for next to nothing) and roll the candles yourself. Again, tie with a ribbon for a real country theme wedding.

- Small single candles can easily picked up from superstores. Again, decorating them with a ribbon provides the perfect finish. You could even write a personal message for each guest. Perfect finish and personal touch.

Make your own wedding favours from wire
If you've got a crafty streak, then perhaps creating small gifts from wire is perfect for you. Depending on your skill level, you could create little photo holders, photo frames or little sculptures of a bride a groom. It's a really lovely way to say 'thank you for coming' as well as being reasonably cost effective.

Little plants as cheap wedding favoursFor green fingered brides-to-be...
Dried flowers, seedlings or cuttings make lovely wedding favours. If you use your own flowers or cuttings from your own garden (or perhaps a relative's garden), you'll find that these favours are very cost effective.

Hopefully these ideas will get you starting to think about how you can make your own wedding favours. Whatever you decide, a gift created by you is a lovely gesture for your guests.
