Inspiration To Make Your Own Wedding Invitations
To make your own wedding invitations is not only easy, but it allows you to have a creative flair and is extremely cost effective as well. These simple ideas will give you some inspiration and set you off on the right track to creating your own wedding invitations.
When you make your own wedding invitations, it's best to start off with putting down some of your ideas on paper. So grab a sketch book or some blank A4 paper and start your ideas off. Here are some of the ideas I had which will give you inspiration.· ‘Just the two of us’ – you could use a photograph of you and your fiancé on the front of a card. Use passport size photos (you can get digital ones done really cheaply) or create a custom pose for each of your guests. Definitely individual and unique!
· A twist on using a photo, is to trace you and your fiancé from the photo. It will then look like you've drawn each one individually.
· Alternatively, you could use a special photo of you and your fiancé and create a card from that. Kodak and Photobox both have card making facilities so all you need to do is upload the photo and press go!
· You could also use an image from an image bank such as Dreamstime.com. You can pick up lovely images or illustrations for less than £2 that you could print out on your home computer. If the shot’s royalty free, then you can use it as much as you like too.
· Buy sets of pretty postcards and then print the info or attach it with a co-ordinating ribbon or glue to the back. You can buy packs of postcards for half the price of a normal plain greeting card. Just insert it in an envelope with the rest of your info and you’re off.
· Water-soluble pencils are great when you make your own wedding invitations. They’re easy to use and give a nice effect when treated with a bit of water. They make repeating a hand drawn design easy. Try hearts, couples, rings or flowers for simple illustration ideas.
· Use a coloured glue pen to give a relief effect to your designs. They come in all different colours so you can easily match your colour theme. Have a look at some these homemade wedding invitations that use this effect.
· Embellish your cards with ribbon, bows, beads, foam cut-outs or dried flowers. These will add to your cost, but it will still be much cheaper if you make them yourself than buying pre-made cards.
· There are lots of wedding stickers and transfers in craft shops. From modern designs to antique styles – there are lots to choose from. A couple of packets will see you through invites and be really cheap too.
(Good Tip: Craft and art shops, such as Liz's Crafts are great place to go and get inspiration too - so go and have a wander round and see what strikes you!)
· If you’re a dab hand with publishing packages or Photoshop, you could create your own custom design. Tinker with some of your photos or create an illustration yourself.
· Last but not least, try a calligraphy pen for a traditional approach. Don’t forget if you make your own wedding invitations you’ll also need envelopes. Plain and simple envelopes are often the best and cheapest route to go. Don’t forget to check that the card you buy or make will fit the envelopes! A great place I found for all the materials I needed was Liz's Crafts. I bought my pre-folded cards, paper and envelopes from them. They also have a great range of stickers, glue and embellishments for hand-made cards.
