How to find a low cost venue

Answer:

I hope you're planning your New Year's Eve wedding for next year and not this one! With only a couple of weeks to go, you may be a bit stuck!

First of all, NYE is not a public holiday, so as far as the ceremony goes, you should be ok getting hold of a registrar or celebrant to conduct the marriage ceremony. Venues on the other hand may be a little tricky.

For most venues, NYE is one of the biggest money spinners of the calendar year, so if you're planning a reception on that night, they will probably expect you to cover their usual NYE takings so they're not out of pocket. You will therefore have premium prices to pay, especially since the staff will be on 'time and a half' or 'double time'. You'll find this with any services (DJ, caterers, photographers) you use on the night of NYE.

One way around it is to use smaller venues or public venues. For smaller venues, I mean restaurants where you can book out the entire restaurant for the evening for your reception or a function room in a pub. For public venues, I would recommend village halls, community centres, arts centres etc, but bear in mind that some of these will not be open as usual on NYE. Giving yourself plenty of time will help, but some of the public venues may be put off by having to open up and service a wedding on a non-standard day.

With the public venues, you may also have to use outside caterers (at additional cost because it's NYE) or do your own, so make sure you ask this question too.

As far as Staffordshire goes, I'm not familiar with wedding venues or public venues in the county. I would suggest starting with finding a venue that will provide the actual marriage ceremony (i.e. church or registry office) and then work from there.

Don't forget, if you've got your heart set on NYE for your wedding, you can make it happen!

All the best

Nicola

Good luck with NYE wedding
by: Kimmi

Hi, just wanted to let you know that I am getting married for the second time on NYE 2009. I am divorced and my fiance is a widower. We are booking a small church, then a meal with a small group and then we are going back to the same restaurant at night without the more elderly. We will pay a set amount per person for a 6 course meal and entertainment, for the whole night. I am so excited. Let me know what you have planned and maybe we can share ideas.

Take care
Kim
