Wedding and evening invitations, plus RSVP cards
I am having an Oriental themed wedding, inspired by my Nan who was half Malaysian and is unfortunately no longer with us.
It is not easy getting items for a themed wedding, which is why I am making things myself - I think there should be more websites to cater to this!!
I am a very creative person and make my own cards anyway, so it made sense to make my own invitations. I already had a set of Oriental stamps, so I bought some ink, cards, inserts, outline stickers and some card for RSVPs.
I had an idea for my layout, so practiced on some scrap paper, before applying my design on the actual cards.
To make the invitations I stamped a blossom branch in the bottom right corner and a Chinese ‘love’ symbol at the top left. I then placed outline stickers in the centre. Next I threaded a couple of beads onto ribbon and glued the ribbon onto the front left of the card. I designed and printed inserts for all the cards and stuck them with roller glue.
For the wedding invitations I used red card with gold ink, gold ribbon and red beads and the reverse for the evening invitations. As all the outline stickers were gold, I had to colour the evening ones red myself! I then printed postcards for the RSVPs - front and reverse, so my address would be printed on them all ready for posting.
I also printed information leaflets on paper I already had.
I spent about £27.99 altogether on this project. I am not sure exactly how much I saved, as I always planned to make my own. But looking at websites that actually do Chinese style, it would have cost me well over £100!!
I am also in the process of making my own jewellery, as this is something else that I am unable to find anything suitable!
Tips - Even if you are not a particularly creative person, it makes much more sense to make your own invitations - you can see how much I have saved. Anytime the word 'wedding' is involved, the money rises! There are many places now that sell kits with everything included and instructions. A really simple card invitation could be printed from your computer - just look for images and fonts that suit your style.
