Paying For A Wedding
I am getting married in May next year (2009) but the problem is our families don’t have any spare money to pay for it. What is the best way to go about planning and saving in this situation? I want a family wedding and in my case that will amount to about 70 guests but it’s difficult to budget with no budget to start with! What suggestions do you have? For me, even £5,000 would be expensive.
Answer:
First off, if you’re getting married and you don’t want to get into debt, you need to start saving. An easy way to work out how much you can save is to write down everything you spend. You’ll soon see areas where you’re wasting money.
You can then put this spare cash in a savings account and then watch it grow over the next year. You’ll be surprised at how much you can put away, just making some little adjustments to your daily spending. There are some tips and ideas for saving for a wedding here.
Perhaps if you’re parents see you both saving, then they may also be able to put a little side and help you out with a few things. Even little amounts soon turn into big amounts.
You’ve also asked about suggestions for a wedding for 70 guests on a really low budget. You can do this easily! You’ll need some help from friends and to find a cheap venue.
There are plenty of low cost venues that are really beautiful. In fact, some of the best weddings I’ve been too are ones that are not in fancy hotels or converted barns and that’s because the guests are all far more relaxed! Don’t forget, Kate Winslett and Billy Piper both had their receptions in a pub!
Don’t be put off by the cheaper venues – use your imagination to make the venue just right. Consider drapes, decorations, flowers and lighting to make your venue perfect. Also, don’t forget you can hire things instead of buying them – it’ll save you a fortune.
One way to keep your costs low is get your family and friends to out. At my wedding, lots of people did with various jobs from cake making to transport. Your guests will also be honoured to have such an integral part in your wedding and it really makes them feel part of the day.
Hopefully there’s enough here to get your started. I’d recommend you read a couple more articles though:
