'Save the Date' magnets for your weddingSave the Date magnets are becoming more and more popular. This new tradition hasn't been around for very long, but in the United States, it's very popular. There are a few different reasons that this type of engagement announcement is becoming more popular. These days, many people choose to have long engagements in order to save for their weddings. Announcements let them tell people their wedding date before they're ready to send out more formal invitations. Many of us live far from our family and friends and a Save the Date card gives intended guests plenty of notice to arrange travel and accommodation. Plus, as people become busier and busier, a Save the Date card can ensure you get your wedding date on the calendar more than a couple of months in advance, so your guests will keep your intended date free. A simple reminderOriginally, Save the Date cards started off as simple cards or postcards announcing an engagement and a far-off wedding date. These days the use of magnets are becoming very popular. The magnets can be stuck to a fridge, where they'll be reminders of your upcoming wedding. These magnets usually feature a picture of you and your partner – sometimes a formal or informal engagement picture – and a saying about when you're intending to marry. Cost effective announcementsGetting Save the Date magnets printed for fifty or a hundred friends and family members can be really expensive, but there are ways to do it more cheaply. Check out deals at different print shops to see who has the best prices. Also, you might check with the place you plan to get your invitations to see if they have package deals on invitations and magnetised announcements. Save the Date magnets are also easy to make. Your local craft shop will probably have rolls of magnet strips, and you can easily create cards with pictures and your wedding date to attach to the magnets. You can also buy magnetised inkjet paper so you can design your own announcements and print them off at home, which will make them that much cheaper. Other ideas for Save the Date announcementsEven though you can make your own Save the Date magnets, they're not the cheapest way to announce your wedding. You could send out standard postcards. These cost only a little bit to post, and you can easily print them off on heavy cardstock at home. You can also send more traditional cards that will be similar to your wedding invitations. If you're planning your wedding within a few months of becoming engaged, you don't really need to send out Save the Date cards; just send your invitations a little earlier than usual. This way, your guests have plenty of time to get your wedding date on the calendar but you don’t have to pay for both Save the Date magnets and invitations.
