Somerset - Country Treat!

by Peter Lampard
(London)

We got married this year at Huntstile Organic Farm in the beautiful county of Somerset - our 'legal' bit was taken care of in the local registry office but our fabulous ceremony took place at the stone circle in the open countryside on top of a hill with the most amazing breathtaking views! The weather was sunny and it was simply a perfect day.

We were taken up the hill on hay trailers (very Thomas Hardy!) and some of us chose to walk down afterwards, others hitched a lift back with the tractor & trailers. We were greeted with glasses of chilled champagne & a wonderful (home-grown)strawberry tea which was eaten in Lizzie & John's beautiful farmhouse garden. The resident jazz band gently played in the background. All my friends and family chatted & drank & milled around the garden - then we had a delicious buffet, prepared by Lizzie & her team from locally grown food, and we did the speeches & toasts in the marquee.

Later on we moved into the farmhouse dining hall, where we enjoyed the sounds of 'Snappa', a great local band from Bridgwater & a disco until 2am. There are about 6 or 7 rooms in the house and they also have a camping area meaning lots of people could stay in & around the house - so we could all have breakfast together on Sunday in the marquee.

We had 96 guests. Our parents bought the wine & bubbly (thank you) and rest was as follows:

Farmhouse hire for whole weekend, accommodation, marquee, camping + all food (cream tea, buffet, breakfast): £4875
Wedding Rings: antiques from Marlows £290 + £200
Sandra's Dress & Shoes: (re-cycled from dress agency) £150
Peter's Suit: (as above dress agency) £65
Band & disco - Snappa: £600
Flowers (locally sourced): £550
Misc. extras: £500
Total......................£7230
BARGAIN!!!!

They couldn't have been more helpful at Huntstile, in fact they went out of their way to make sure everything went smoothly & to ensure all had a great time. The food was lovely - excellent vegetarian choices (not a veggie lasagne in sight!!) and best of all there was no stress, no anxiety, just very relaxed and lots and lots of fun!

Amazing!
by: Melanie Beretta-Tingle

Just wanted to add to the comments on Huntstile Organic Farm as a wedding venue. We got married here in September this year and had the most amazing day!

All of our guests commented on what a beautiful venue the farm was and some of our friends, who are due to get married in the next year or so, have even changed their wedding venue since in order to have a wedding venue similar to this (although not sure how easy thats going to be unless they get married here!)

On the Friday night Lizzie cooked us a delicious meal which we had with close family/friends, along with a few drinks before the big day. This made it even more special as we really got to spend quality time with close friends and family before the actual wedding (plus having the extra time with them made you feel that you weren't rushing around on the day trying to speak to everyone!) Then the morning of the wedding waking up to the chickens running around and being able to treat the whole place like a home really helps calm any nerves you may have!

The day itself was the best (as most brides will say) but it truly made it special and unique to have the tractor/trailer to take our guests down to the church and all of us back to the farm afterwards. Along with the amazing views you have whilst having reception drinks with your guests!

Both ourselves and guests enjoyed every minute of this place and I cannot recommend this place enough for a truly amazing, unique and inexpensive wedding venue!

Experience of Huntstile
by: Sarah

Hello, I was really keen on Huntstile since it looked stunning on the visit, however have heard mixed reports about the food - what are your opinions?

Also, is the dining room too small for a barn dance for 100?

Thank you

Bargain!
by: Jane

We've booked Huntstile Organic Farm in Somerset - it's £2500 for the venue and this (wait for it) INCLUDES B&B for up to 22 guests in 8 lovely bedrooms on the Saturday AND the Sunday mornings - we can charge our guests for staying over, which most of them want to do anyway, and this will go towards paying our bill. There are also camping facilities for friends who don't mind roughing it and beautiful gardens for afternoon drinks and photos.
If you want to use the marquee it's an extra £1500 for a huge swagged and lined jobby that will seat up to 140. Seating for is 75 thrown in and we will pay to hire in any additional chairs, tables, plates etc.

I fell in love with the farm as soon as we arrived, chickens running around and goats in the garden - it's idyllic! I've read lots of testimonials from other wedding couples there and we are going to have a fantastic time.

There is a very good local florist just up the road from Huntstile, visit their website: www.marshmallowflowers.co.uk and give her a call.
