Ideas for Cost Effective Table Centrepieces
When you’re having a sit-down meal at your wedding reception, you’ll need table centrepieces on each table.
Don’t go for anything that is big as your guests will need to see over it!
Avoid tall and wide centrepieces, such as large flower decorations, large vases or candelabras, as your guests will spend most of the evening bending sideways to see the guest opposite! Plus, there will lots of other things on the table as well. You’ll have place settings, table placecards, wine cooler, water, glasses, butter, salt and pepper and your
table decorations.
So beware of creating too much clutter with a big table centrepiece!
For my wedding, we used a single peony in a hired vase with a couple of strands of bear grass. It worked out at £1 per flower head, £1 for the vase and the florist threw in the grass for free. We had to give the peonies a couple of days to open, but they were then beautiful and a really effective centrepiece. You could do a similar table centrepiece with most large flower heads.
Traditionally, the centrepiece has always been a small flower arrangement, but these days a more modern look is to use floating flowers or candles, or a mix of both. Again, you can pick up candles very cheaply and they look great, especially as the evening draws on and they’re lit. Some alternative cost effective table decorations include:
• Using a single flower stem in a vase. An elegant, sophisticated look.
• Using tealights with a bit of ribbon tied around the metal casing.
• Silk flowers, but fresh flowers are probably just as cheap.
Don’t forget, you can always use your table centrepieces as gifts for the bridal party afterwards, so you’ll get a cost saving there.
