My mum has made a three tier wedding cake for my reception. But she doesn’t feel she is up to decorating the cake. Do you have any ideas and tips for easy wedding cake decorations?

Decorating a wedding cake can seem a daunting task but there are plenty of easy options for creating an elegant cake.

Small pearls
After applying marzipan and roll out icing, decorate your cake with easy pearls of royal icing in your wedding colours. Fit a piping bag with 1.5 icing nozzles. Starting at the bottom, pipe a concentrated amount of small pearls increasing the amount of space between as you get higher up the side of the cake.

You could also colour these pearls using several different icing colourings, which you can buy from cake shops. Finish off with ribbon around the base of the layers. Make sure you spend plenty of time practicing this technique on a flat layer of fondant, to perfect the look.

If you are not so keen on piping, then you could always use a pearl mould like one of our readers.

 

Fondant flowers
You can make simple flower decorations from roll out fondant or modelling paste with a simple floral cutter. For clean cuts place the cutter under the fondant and roll over with a rolling pin. A small circular flower centre can be cut out with a tube and attached to the centre of the flower with royal icing and then attached to cake in same manner.
