Wedding Cake Boxes: Types and Styles

Wedding cake boxes protect and store your wedding cake for transportation to and from the venue as well as for sending to guests after the event. When you order a wedding cake, think carefully about the types of boxes you might need.

There are different styles and types of these boxes that are used for different things. If you're buying a cake from a supermarket, or creating you own, you'll have to buy your own sturdy cake box. Cakes from the bakers will usually come in their own cake box. Here's what kind of boxes are available and why you might need them.

Boxes for the whole cake

The wedding cake boxes that are probably most important are the ones that are used to transport the whole cake. At some point, the cake is probably going to be bouncing around a bit in a vehicle, so you need a sturdy box to prevent damaging it. For individual cakes that will be stacked on separate stands, use separate boxes suited to the size of each tier. It's important the cake doesn't slide around in the cake box as this could damage the decorations or icing. Individual cake boxes can be bought from any cake equipment shop or online. You can then arrange your cake on the stand when you get to the venue.

If your cake is already stacked, then you'll need a special type of cake box. These cake boxes are extra sturdy for transportation and can accommodate the size of a stacked wedding cake. Ideally, the cake should be assembled at the venue, but sometimes this isn't possible. Stacked wedding cakes can easily get damaged, so make sure the wedding cake box is sturdy enough to take the weight and size of your cake. Wedding cake boxes for the guests

If there's a chance that you'll be sending cake home with guests after the wedding, you should buy some smaller wedding cake boxes. These boxes are only big enough for a single slice of cake, are suitable for posting and they come in a couple of different styles. If you're giving cake to your guests to take home, then you can use cake slice boxes. If there's more cake left over than you know what to do with, you'll be able to send it home with friends and relatives.

Another type of box, though, is sturdier and more secure. You can actually post cake in these boxes. If you arrange for someone to do it the day after your wedding, you can get cake to guests who weren't able to celebrate with you. Just make sure that cake slices are wrapped in plastic so they don't go stale, and send them so that they'll get to their destinations quickly.

Wedding cake boxes are probably not on the top of your priority list as you're planning your wedding, but they are one of those minor details that every bride has to think about at some point. Choosing the right boxes can keep you from cake disasters and allow you to play the generous bride with leftovers.
