Can you use large sweet tins as a wedding cake container for a few weeks or does it have to be a purpose built cake tin? Do you need to wrap the cake in anything before placing in a tin of any kind?

Using a proper storage container is very important to the success of your wedding cake. It would be a shame to put in so much time and energy to find a spoilt cake when there are so many other things that demand your attention as you near your wedding day.

An airtight container is best for storing cakes that have not been ‘sealed’ with marzipan or fondant. Tins are not ideal as a wedding cake container because they may have slight bends in the lip that may allow the air in and ruin your cake.

Also be sure to store your cake in a cool, dry, dark place.



Once a cake has marzipan or fondant covering it can be safely stored in a cake box without plastic wrap or foil. The icing will act as a seal and keeps out the air, however the icing should only be applied up to 5 days before your wedding day.
