Simple Wedding Cake Decorations

Once you've got your wedding cake iced, you need to think about wedding cake decorations. Your decorations don't have to be really complicated; you can in fact create stunning wedding cakes with simple sugar flower techniques.

One of the simplest sugar paste wedding cake decorations is to use a cut out, where you simply roll out the sugar paste and use a pre-defined shape.

With this method there's no rolling or complicated construction and you can easily pick up from any cake supply store. These are then attached to the iced wedding cake with some moistened sugar paste or water.

You can create a really amazing cake that looks professionally decorated. The one pictured here is by my friend Vici, who went on a short cake decorating course before her wedding. I'm sure you'll agree, the cake looks pretty impressive!

For something a bit more complicated, you can make up your own flowers. They're a little more tricky, but with a little practice you'll get the hang of it. The videos below give you step-by-step instructions on what you need and how to do it.

If all this use of sugar paste is still too daunting, don't worry, you can create a stunning wedding cake without the use of speciality tools, piping bags, rolling pins or cake cutters. Simply use a piece of ribbon and some fresh flowers and your cake will look elegant and stunning.

For the top of my wedding cake, we kept it simple and just had a small flower arrangement using the same flowers in my bouquet and arrangements. It looked great – and anyway, the proof is in the pudding - it's what it tastes like!
