What Wedding Cake Supplies Do You Need?If you're making your own wedding cake, you need plenty of wedding cake supplies on hand. Even the best DIY brides need the most basic supplies, so before you start baking up a storm, be sure that you have everything that you need. Even if you have to buy some of these supplies just for your wedding cake, you may be able to use them again, and you'll still end up paying less for the cake than you would if you bought it from a professional. Alternatively, you could always sell them on eBay after you've done your cake. So before you start buying ingredients, sort through your kitchen to be sure you have all of the necessary supplies. Many wedding cake supplies are things that you probably already have around your kitchen, especially if you cook a lot. If you don't cook a lot, you may have to buy or borrow these supplies, or you could always bake the cake in someone else's kitchen. The exact supplies that you need will depend mainly on the recipe that you use and the style of cake that you're going to make, but here are a few essential wedding cake supplies. Get the basicsFirst off, be sure that you have enough bowls, including at least one extra large bowl, and a reliable weighing scale. Also, you'll need basic supplies like wooden spoons for mixing, a spatula for scraping batter into cake pans and don't forget to get enough cake pans in the right sizes! 
To make the process easier, you'll also want to buy or borrow an electric mixer or whisk. Wedding cakes are so large that it's incredibly tough to mix all the layers by hand. You could ask for one of these as an early wedding gift, find a used one on eBay, or borrow one from a cook you know. Beyond this, there are things that you may not have thought of yet, including a wire rack that will help your cake cool before you ice it. Don't forget decorating equipment, either. If you're icing your own cake, it's best to experiment on a test cake first. That way, you can be sure you know what you're doing and you have the right supplies. The types of decorating supplies you need will depend on how you're going to decorate your cake. You'll probably want to buy ready-made Royal Icing or fondant, and you'll need spatulas, icing sugar and icing bags with nozzles. If you're using fondant, you'll also need a small rolling pin and maybe some cutters. Wedding cake specificsYou may already have all these supplies, but you probably don't have the necessary cake boards, separators, pillars and dowels that are specifically for large wedding style cakes. You can buy these wedding cake supplies through eBay or an online cake supplies store. You may be able to find good deals on these supplies at a department store as well. Another great option to save on the wedding cake supplies that you need is to borrow them from a friend. Sometimes people will keep the pillars from their wedding cakes for other purposes, so you may be able to borrow these for a few days. Alternatively, you may be able to rent these one-time-use supplies from cake supply stores in your area.
