Wedding Dress For A Second Marriage
by Gill
(Liverpool)
In July, I’m marrying for a second time and need an appropriate wedding dress. It’s going to be a quiet family ceremony in a register office, then off for a lovely meal at a local hotel. I’m 46 and by the time of the wedding I’ll be a size 12. I want to look special, but not over-the-top. Please can you give me advice on what to wear as a wedding dress the second time around?
Answer:
When you’re marrying for a second time, you often don’t want to wear a big wedding dress. After all, you wore one like that the first time round! So I don’t blame you wanting to for a more sophisticated look.
There are plenty of outfits around that could work for you and that aren't too expensive. First off, you need to think about what colour you want to wear. Are you still happy to wear white? For the time being, I’ll assume you are. I think it’s perfectly acceptable for a second time bride to wear white. It’ll make sure you stand out on your special day.
There are many styles of wedding dresses that aren’t so big. The high street has a good collection and my favourite is Monsoon (I got my dress from them). They’ve always got reasonably priced bridal dresses, usually under £200, that aren’t big and too over the top.
Their current range has slinky satin dresses, a beaded detail shift dress and lots of other a-line styles. Whether you choose slinky or a-line you’ll look fab with your new size 12 figure!
Another couple of high street names that are expanding their bridal sections are Marks and Spencer and Debenhams. Again, they’re focusing on more floaty and slinky dresses, rather than bigger dresses with trains.
If you want to be bit a more modest and not show off your shoulders, then pop a shawl or bolero over your shoulders.
Another option is a tailored suit. It may end up being a little more expensive then the dresses mentioned above, but you would look very stylish and it would be very flattering on your new figure too.
More recently, I’ve seen modern brides opt for a white or cream trouser suit. You can easily find these in the summer months and it won’t break the bank either. Again, you’ll stand out because of the colour but still be the belle of the ball, especially when you team it with your bouquet and accessories.
With all these ideas, I’m sure there’s something to suit. Best thing to do is keep an open mind and try on lots of outfits. You’ll find one that ticks all your boxes.
Good luck.
