The latest wedding dress trends certainly have a vintage feel. It seems vintage is taking over planet wedding with it's influence is everywhere from the catwalk to the finer little details. So, over the next season, let's take a look at some of the key wedding dress trends. There will always be a place for the large a-line full skirt with strapless bodice and layers of ruched silks or satins. They're too flattering and generally make brides look too gorgeous! They can be expensive though and with prices usually starting anywhere from £700 (when shopping on the high street) to upwards of £3000, you can easily spend a fortune. There are lots of other trends though coming in that are elegant and glamourous. My favourite at the moment has to be the long 1930s silhoettes of 'Hollywood glamour'. It's a very popular era for it's sophisticated look with simple, draped fabrics which are embellished with beads and finished off with a stunning headpiece.
I'm also seeing a trend towards more quirky wedding themes and with it vintage or retro wedding dresses to match. 1940s, rockabilly, punk and even 1920s flapper styles are all fun and appearing frequently, giving the vintage theme an even bigger revival. The dress here is from Honeypie Boutique and is only £149.
Keeping up with the trend, but keeping the cost downSo, if you're looking to be right on trend on this coming season, but you don't want to spend a fortune, then how can you do it? Well, the great thing about vintage is that it's that its often less expensive than the current designers. You're paying for the finding, cleaning and storing of the dress, so it's generally a lot cheaper than new dresses. Don't be fooled though, some vintage boutiques are still expensive and you might not find a bargain. Ebay is great for vintage or retro wedding dresses too and it's easy to find all the latest wedding dress trends within it's auctions. There are also plenty of vintage stores making their dresses up in white, ivory and cream. They're cut from a simple pattern and so you're less likely to find the designer pricetag. Stores such as Viven of Holloway or Honeypie Boutique offer 1950s style dresses for a fraction of the designers such as Candy Anthony. Alternatively, you could ask a seamstress to craft you a wedding dress, again for the stitch that you'd pay one of the wedding dress designers. The 1930s glamourous styles are also easy to pick up on the cheap. High street stores such as Debenhams and Monsoon will definitely show these styles in their wedding collections. With less fabric in these dresses (bias cut or long line dresses), you should find the price reflects this, however to ensure these dresses look good, a lot of work needs to go into the detail of the cut. You should find good, middle-of-the-road dresses that reflect these wedding dress trends on the High Street. So if you're into vintage, then this is your season. If you're not, then there are still the old favourites around which will always be best sellers in the wedding boutiques, after all, there are plenty of people who want that princess look.
