How to Find the Best Wedding Flower Ideas
I found that when it came to my wedding, the best place to find wedding flower ideas was the florist. I had no idea where to start when it came to flowers. There are certain flowers I love, but whether the flowers would be suitable or not, I had no idea.
A good florist should help you with all your flower ideas, from recommending different styles of bridal bouquets to which flowers will work best with your wedding colour schemes.
Most importantly, a good florist will not only provide you with great wedding flower ideas, but also help you stick to your budget!
This article is about helping you to find and choose a florist by making sure you ask the right questions from the start.
Where to start
First things first, look locally for your florist. The more local you go, the more likely it is you’ll get a better price for your wedding flowers.
Ask around about good florists and try and take recommendations. Your female relatives who live locally are likely to know which florists are creative and whether they’re expensive or not. Choose three local florists and visit them.
Getting the basics right
When you visit the florist, make sure you have an idea of the type of flowers you like. If you’re not sure, many florists have magazines and books that you can look through to start this thought process.
Also tell them a bit about your wedding, for example, the food, the venue, but more importantly the style of dress you’re having.
The florist will be able to get an idea of your personality and style of wedding. From this information they will be able to start giving you lots of wedding flower ideas, including the types of arrangements and flowers that will suit your day.
Ask to see their wedding book
Any good wedding florist will have a wedding book with examples of their wedding creations. By viewing this you’ll get a quick idea of their style. All florists have a creative flair and when I got married, I saw florists with a simple, minimalist approach right through to a more country-cottage style. Make sure you choose one that suits your style.
Ask lots of questions
When you think you’ve found a florist that you like and is within your budget, start to ask lots of questions. It will help you with your decision as well as give you lots more wedding flower ideas. Here’s a list of questions to consider:
- My favourite flower is XXXX, is this suitable for my bouquet?
- Is it possible to match the colour of the flowers to my dress?
- Is it possible to match them to the bridesmaid’s dresses?
- What flowers are in season?
- Which flowers are the best value?
- Do those flowers preserve well?
- I have £XXX to spend, what would you recommend?
- Have you got any suggestions for the reception flowers?
- How many arrangements do I need for the reception?
- Do you deliver the flowers?
- When would you deliver the flowers?
- How should I preserve the flowers?
Discuss pricing as well
When you mention a wedding, unfortunately the price normally doubles! We found that for the same type of bridal bouquet (hand-tied rose bouquet), the price ranged from £25 to £75. So when meeting with a florist, ask for a rough quote. Make sure you get three like-for-like quotes so you can easily select the best value supplier.
Finally, don’t forget a good florist should be helpful, a good advisor, creative, considerate to your ideas, provide quality flowers and be within your budget.
