Wedding Insurance?

by Siona
(Wales)

I have been looking at wedding insurance, largely because I am concerned about public liability, especially since we are holding the wedding reception on our farm. However, all the policies available seem to provide far more cover than I need for my cheapskate wedding. What is your view on this?

Answer:

I think with wedding insurance, it’s up to you whether you feel you need to take it out or not. Given you’re having your reception on a farm, I think it’s actually a good idea to get public liability, although, let’s hope none of your guests sue you!

There are some reasonably cheap wedding insurance deals out there and most of the big players start from around £45-£50 for a basic package, however they may not cover your special circumstances (i.e. being on a farm).

If it’s just the public liability you’re after, perhaps you could speak to your current farm insurance company you use to get your existing insurance extended to cover the guests on your wedding day. Whether it will be cheaper or not than the ‘wedding’ insurance, I don’t know, but at least it is more specific to your needs. Alternatively, you could speak to the NFU. They may be able to give you some advice as well.

All the best
