How to Source Good Wedding Photographers

Finding good wedding photographers is tricky, particularly since your photography is possibly one of the most important aspects of your day.

It’s therefore crucial that whatever style of photography you like, you’re confident you’ll get the result you want. This article is about finding photographers for your wedding and asking the right questions so that you’re confident and happy with the results.

Ask friends and family for personal recommendations
A great place to start is by asking friends and relatives. Often they’ll know of a photographer from another wedding who did a great job, or friends that have been impressed with some portrait photography they may have had done. Start to compile a list of possibilities and then call each photographer.

Review the photographer’s work on the internet
The internet is great place to start to find wedding photographers, however be careful to source one that is local to your area or you’ll end up forking out for their travel expenses as well. Whilst on the internet, you can visit their websites and view their portfolios. This will give you a sense of their style, any packages they have on offer and some top-line costs.

You can also try Find A Wedding Photographer. They've got loads of photographers listed on their site and they've even got a budget section.

Call them up
When you’ve found several photographers you like the look of, call them and discuss your needs with them. At this point, you’ll be able to get a feel of their personality. This is important as you’re entrusting them with a very important job and you need to feel comfortable with them – in turn you’ll look better in the photographs.

Make an appointment
Next you should make an appointment to discuss their service in more detail. This is the time to make sure you’re happy with what they’re offering and what’s included in their quotes. During the meeting, make notes and make sure you ask all the photographers the same questions so you can compare like-with-like. If they have a contract, ask to see it and carefully read it to ensure you understand what you’re getting.

Making the final selection
Once you’ve met your photographer, ironed out all the details of what you want and you’re happy with the cost (and it’s within your wedding budget), all that is left to do is confirm this with your chosen photographer. Sign your contract and tick this off your ‘To Do’ list.
