Wedding Ring Designs, Styles and Shapes
When it comes to wedding ring designs, it’s a bit of minefield. There are literally hundreds of designs around from different types and coloured metals to some good old fashioned traditional numbers.
Here I run through the different shapes of traditional wedding rings and look at some of the more popular designs and styles at the moment. The traditional designs
Most brides and grooms go for a traditional-looking wedding band. This is often plain in design and made from gold, white gold or platinum. From this base, the shape of the ring is chosen which usually denotes the comfort and fit. Different types of shape There are several different types of wedding ring shapes, the most common are:
- Court: probably the most traditional shape, these rings are rounded on the inside and rounded on the outside, making them quite comfortable. - Flat: a flat shape on the outside gives a modern appearance and the inside is flat too. - Flat court: a flat court gives the modern look but with the comfort of being rounded on the inside. - D-shape: D-shape wedding rings are flat on the inside and rounded on the outside. - Comfort: Comfort wedding rings are rounded on the inside, slightly flattened on the outside and have rounded edges for extra comfort. They’re perfect for those who aren’t used to wearing rings, like my husband. Coloured wedding ring designs
Adding some colour to your wedding ring can add a little touch of individuality. Rose gold, white gold and gold can combine to create an unusual look. Perhaps use two colours or even three – there are literally hundreds of different combinations around. Introducing colours within the band is becoming more and more popular, especially for men. There maybe a thin layer of colour added or perhaps half the width of the ring given over to another coloured metal. Either way, with hundreds of designs around you’re sure to find something that is individual. Celtic designs Celtic designs never seem to go out of fashion. They’re always popular and provide a delicate pattern on the wedding band. Again, there are hundreds of different patterns and styles to choose from, or you could consider designing your own. Russian wedding rings A Russian wedding ring is three rings in one. The three rings sit over one another, are interlinked and are usually three different colours – white gold, rose gold and gold. They’re often very pretty and tend to look better when worn without an engagement ring. Diamond wedding rings
It’s becoming more and more popular for brides to add a bit of sparkle to their wedding bands. Whether single diamonds or a row of diamonds, adding a small diamond into the ring can really set off your band as well as your engagement ring. It’s worth trying a few on with your engagement ring to see if you like it – it can often be very pretty and not too expensive. Having a diamond set in your wedding ring is not only for women. There are more and more men’s wedding ring designs set with diamonds. Why not try interesting designs with coloured gold and finished off with a single diamond? Custom Designs If you fancy something completely different and unique only to you, why not design your own wedding ring? Most jewellers will be happy to create your perfect, custom-made wedding band for you. They’ll even help you design from it scratch so there’s no need to worry if designing isn’t your thing.
