Wedding Seating Plan

by Colette
(Manchester)

I am making my daughter’s wedding seating plan. I have mounted quite a few for the board but I’m not that happy with the results yet. I think that using a frame like you would get inside a picture frame, the ones made of thick card, would look much more professional but I’m not sure of how to cut it or where to start. Could you please advise me or is there a video showing how it’s done? Thanks, Colette

Hi Colette,

I know how much work a seating plan can be. There are pre-cut cardboard frames that you can find online either on eBay or by Googling what you’re looking for.

Alternatively, you can buy a special 'mount cutter' tool that cuts at an angle giving the bevelled edge, but it's probably not worth the cost. If you really want that bevelled edge, you could go to a picture framers. They can cut mount board to any size you need.

If you want to cut your own squares or rectangles in a thick card mount board, simply draw up your design on the back with a pencil and then use an X-Acto knife (utility knife) and a ruler to give you a straight line to cut them out. Make sure you put something underneath like a piece of wood so you don’t cut through onto the surface you’re working on.

Once they are cut out, glue or tape the guests’ names and table numbers in the openings from the back. If you’re not comfortable with cutting out the shapes, you can print the names and table numbers on some nice stationery and layer it with coordinating stationery and glue them to the mount board. This gives the board some depth which looks very nice.

Decorating the board with ribbons or other embellishments gives it a nice finish too.

Good luck with your project.

Nicola
