Plants Make Elegant
Wedding Table Decor

Why not choose a plant to complete your wedding table decor? Plants can be a show-stopper, they add a welcome splash of colour and they're a cost effective solution too, especially if you nurture them yourself. Here I focus on which plants work well as table centrepieces.

Use houseplants for your wedding table decor

You can pick up houseplants from your local supermarket or garden centre very cheaply. They’re often a much cheaper alternative to fresh cut flowers or arrangements.

Lilies are especially good as you get a good balance of blooms and leaves. Be careful not to go to big – your guests will want to see each other.

Peace lilies, corsage lilies and kaffir lilies are all good as well and have very pretty flowers.

Orchids are probably my favourite houseplant for your wedding tables. They come in a range of colours, so you can easily match your colour theme, plus they’re a stunning shape which creates visual interest on the table. Best of all they’re not too imposing, so your guests can easily talk across the table.

For green fingered brides, grow some bulbs

Beautiful hyacinths, lilies, amaryllis and daffodils are all lovely flowers that bloom from bulbs. They’re ideal for a winter or early spring wedding as you can easily force them to bloom indoors during the winter months. If you’re a novice, give yourself a little time to try it out – it’ll take at least a month for the bulbs to bloom and they should last for about 6 weeks.

The benefit with plants as part of your wedding decor is that you can give them away as gifts afterwards, or spruce up your new marital home with a splash of colour. The only downside is the plastic pots that the plants come in, but you can easily hide the plastic by covering the pots in ribbon, wrapping paper or painting them.
