When To Send Out Wedding Invitations?

by Etta
(Manchester)

I’m planning my wedding 30 months in advance (we get married December 2010). I plan everything hugely in advance as you can see! When is the best time to send out the invitations? I naturally want to send them out as early as possible, but I know the etiquette is about 6 months. Is this enough time?

Also a tip for all Northern brides - Percival the Caterers is really affordable and amazingly stylish. Looks like a £45 a head budget but in it actually costs only £15.00 a head - its fab!

Answer:

Wow! You definitely like to plan in advance!

With wedding invitations, you need to give your guests enough notice so they can make travel plans and book accommodation. Six months though is still a little early. Usually, you should start to think about sending them out about 3 months in advance, especially if you’ve got guests coming from abroad, but don’t leave it any later than 8 weeks in advance.

Don’t forget to include an RSVP date on the invitation. Ensure that the RSVP date gives you enough time to plan your catering, seating plans and place cards, so give yourself about 3 weeks to this. This means setting the RSVP date 3 weeks before the wedding. It’s also best to check with caterers or other suppliers that require confirmation of your numbers as they may need to know sooner.

Thanks for the tip too!

Nicola

Great Invites

As a wedding stationer (www.lighthousecards.co.uk hand painted and unique, but not break the bank expensive) i can tell you that it depends on your preferences - yes, it really is all about you.

Some people send out 'save the date' cards as soon as the date is announced as it means family members and key friends who aren't part of the wedding party are kept informed and have something to pin up on the noticeboard.

Invitations are usually sent out 6-8 weeks before the wedding - but if you have table plans that need to be finalised before then, send them out earlier. Some of my brides like to be organised months in advance and send out USA/OZ invites with about 4 months notice - others are last minute ladies - it's really up to your style.

Also - as many stationers want payment in full up front it may be down to your payment schedule or budget. I've recently added an online credit card payment facility for my brides and that seems to have helped!

All the best and have a great time planning - its so exciting.
