Which Presents Should I Get For Our Parents?

My sister got married last year and got my parents and her husband’s parents digital photo frames. I am now stuck as to what to get my parents and my fiancée’s parents. We are on a very tight budget but I want to get them something nice.

The issue that we have is that his parents have contributed quite a bit of money but live abroad and are not helping with any of the arrangements and my parents have contributed less but my mum is helping with making the invitations, cake, bridesmaids’ dresses and flowers. I have had a few ideas for my parents but I am struggling for his. Ideas I have had are garden plants or afternoon tea packages but neither will be any good for his parents. I don’t just want to give flowers because I don’t think it looks very good considering what my sister got them.

This issue is becoming my biggest stress of the whole wedding.

I’m sorry to hear that the decision on what presents to get for both of your parents is so stressful for you.

I think it’s nice that you’re putting so much thought into it. Remember that your parents understand that your budget is tight and will probably be happy with whatever you give them.

With that said, I don’t think you need to get both sets of parents the same gift. They probably have different interests and it makes sense to choose a gift suited for each of them.

It sounds like you really like the digital photo frame idea so maybe you could give your fiancée’s parents a digital photo frame and get your parents the garden plant or afternoon tea package that you thought of. There are digital photo frames on eBay and Amazon for under £30.

Some other ideas are a nice bottle of wine with a set of new wine glasses, a gift basket made up by you filled with some of their favourite goodies or if you have the time and skills why not make them something personal from you. Nothing says thank you quite like a gift that you took the time and effort to make.
